While on-campus recruiting events came to a grinding halt when the coronavirus entered the scene, college students are open to participating in virtual recruiting events this fall.
A new survey of 2,000 undergraduates finds that about three-quarters (74%) who are looking for a full-time job or internship are likely to participate in virtual recruiting events. But students looking for an internship (80%) are more likely than students looking for a full-time job (69%) to say they are likely to participate.
Career fairs are the most popular recruiting events among students seeking jobs — even if they’re moved online. Almost 8 in 10 (78%) students looking for a full-time job or internship are interested in attending virtual career fairs, followed by virtual information sessions (63%). Science majors (80%) in particular express interest in attending virtual career fairs, compared to Arts and Humanities (72%) majors.

In general, students prefer career fairs specific to their field of interest. A majority (80%) of students interested in attending a virtual career fair prefer ones specific to their field of interest over general fairs with different kinds of companies. Science majors are also more likely than Arts and Humanities majors to say so (84% vs. 71%).
