More than 27,000 plant and animal species worldwide are currently threatened with extinction, and a 2018 report from the World Wildlife Fund predicts that climate change could cause half of the world’s species to become extinct by 2100. In recognition of Endangered Species Day, we surveyed college students about their feelings on climate change and found that the majority are very worried about the planet’s rising temperatures.
The survey found that almost 9 out of 10 students (88%) are concerned about climate change, compared to 9% who are not too concerned and 4% who are not at all concerned. Although the future of the planet is worrisome for most students, some are more concerned than others.
More non-binary students (97%) are concerned about climate change than women (92%) or men (81%). Despite the nature of their studies, science majors aren’t the most concerned, either. While 87% of science majors are concerned, 96% of interdisciplinary majors and 92% of arts and humanities majors feel the same.
Interdisciplinary Majors are More Concerned About Climate Change Than Science Majors
