Weekly Insights: Delta Variant

From possible campus closures to male birth control, here are this week’s top college student insights.

Delta Variant

With the Delta coronavirus variant still spreading across the country, a new College Pulse survey of 492 undergraduates finds that more than one-quarter (27%) of college students think it will shut down their school this semester. Almost half (46%) of students don’t think their campus will close, and another 25% are not sure.

Some students are more concerned than others, however. Nearly one-third (31%) of female students believe the Delta variant will shut down their school this fall, compared to 2 in 10 (21%) male students. College Democrats are also twice as likely as college Republicans to say they think the coronavirus variant will cause their campus to close (27% vs. 14%).

Do you think the Delta variant will shut down your school this semester?

World Contraception Day

Ahead of World Contraception Day, a College Pulse survey of 400 undergraduates finds that three-quarters (74%) want to see male birth control become available in their lifetime. While female students are more likely than male students to say so (85% vs. 57%), more than one-quarter (28%) of male students say they’re not sure. Just 16% of male students say they don’t want male birth control to become available, compared to 2% of female students.
