From summer break plans to Britney Spears’ conservatorship, here are this week’s top college student insights.
Summer Break
Summer break is in full swing, and a College Pulse survey of 501 undergraduates finds that more than one-quarter (28%) say they are most looking forward to making money this summer. By comparison, about 1 in 6 say they’re most looking forward to hanging out with friends (17%) or catching up on sleep (17%). Female students are twice as likely as male students to say they’re looking forward to traveling (18% vs. 6%) and less likely to cite earning money (25% vs. 32%).
What are you most looking forward to this summer?
Britney Spears’ Conservatorship
Britney Spears publicly spoke out about her 13-year conservatorship, in which all of her legal decision-making powers are controlled by others, for the first time last month. As the #FreeBritney movement gains momentum, a College Pulse survey of 506 undergraduates finds that a majority (63%) believe Spears’ conservatorship is abusive. Among students who know at least a little about the arrangement, that number jumps to 81%.
Female students are more likely than male students to say they know a great deal or some about the pop star’s conservatorship (69% vs. 28%). But there’s still a gender gap among students who know at least a little about the arrangement, with 86% of female students and 68% of male students saying it’s abusive.
