Weekly Insights: Job Market

From COVID-19’s impact on the job market to students’ view of OnlyFans, here are this week’s top insights.

Job Market

A new survey of 750 undergraduates finds that nearly half (45%) of students overall are very concerned about coronavirus’ impact on the American job market, while another 40% are somewhat concerned. Just 15% of students are either not too concerned or not at all concerned. These fears show up across academic year, as sophomores are just as likely as seniors to say they’re very worried (48% vs. 47%). However, college Republicans are more likely than college Democrats to say they’re very concerned about the current job market (53% vs. 44%).

How concerned are you about coronavirus’ impact on the American job market?

OnlyFans

More than 4 in 10 (44%) students say they have a neutral opinion of OnlyFans, compared to 30% who view it negatively and 21% who view it positively. There is a gender divide, though. Male students are more likely than female students to report a negative opinion of the content subscription service that’s popular among models and sex workers (39% vs. 25%) and less likely to report a neutral opinion (38% vs. 49%).

At the same time, male students are more likely to say they would post nude photos and videos on OnlyFans if they knew they would make $100,000 a year (40% vs. 24%). LGBTQ students are also more likely than straight students to say the same (43% vs. 26%). Roughly 3 in 10 (31%) students overall say they would pose nude on the platform for a six-figure paycheck, and another 31% say they might.

An overwhelming majority (86%) of students say they have never used the platform, but just 3% don’t know about it. Among the 11% of students who report using OnlyFans, 4% post content and 7% only subscribe to others’ accounts.

“Unprofessional” Hair

A survey of 1,070 undergraduates finds that a majority (64%) disagree that “unnaturally” colored hair is unprofessional, while 32% agree and 4% are not sure. But LGBTQ students are more likely than straight students to disagree (86% vs. 56%). Female students are also more likely than male students to disagree that brightly colored hair is unprofessional (71% vs. 55%).
