Facing the prospect of starting an internship or full-time job from home, college students are concerned about staying engaged and motivated while working remotely.
A new survey of 2,000 undergraduates finds that more than two-thirds (69%) say they would be concerned about staying motivated while working from home if they were starting a job or internship remotely. Students’ top priority for staying motivated at home is having a fixed schedule of when they’re expected to be online, followed by regular team meetings and one-on-one meetings with a manager. And female students are more likely than male students to prioritize a fixed schedule (43% vs. 30%).
Female Students are More Likely to Prioritize a Fixed Schedule
When it comes to staying motivated while working from home, what is most important to you? Select your top 3.
Students are split when it comes to what type of work schedule they want, however. Roughly 4 in 10 (43%) say they prefer a traditional workday with an established start and end time, while almost 5 in 10 (47%) prefer a flexible workday. Half (51%) of students who prefer a more flexible schedule also say having a fixed schedule when they’re expected to be online is very important when working from home, suggesting that they still want loose guidelines for their workday.
