Students’ concerns about the coronavirus pandemic have not waned. And as lockdowns are lifted across the country, students are now worried about reopening.
A new survey of 1,500 undergraduates finds that an overwhelming majority (80%) are concerned about their state reopening. Female students are significantly more likely than male students to report being concerned, however. Almost 9 in 10 (87%) female students are concerned, compared to 7 in 10 (70%) male students.
The same gender gap applies to students’ concerns about getting sick. Female students are more likely than their male peers to report worries about contracting COVID-19 when resuming normal activities, such as eating at a restaurant or going into a shop (81% vs. 64%).
